2018 – Amanda Barnes

2018 - Amanda Barnes

Amanda is a British wine journalist and writer who has been based in South America since 2009, researching, visiting and promoting the wines of Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Peru and Bolivia

Amanda writes about South American wine regions for Decanter (she is also a DWWA judge), Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Book; Fodor’s Travel Guides and a range of other publications in the UK (The Drinks Business, The Telegraph, The Guardian) and USA (Wine Enthusiast, SevenFifty).  She is also a panelist and judge for several wine competitions internationally and was the producer of Descorchados wine buying guide in Chile during 2015.

Amanda’s application for the 2018 Geoffrey Roberts Award is to support her research for a comprehensive guide to South America’s wine regions, its producers and grape varieties.  She hopes to highlight the emerging or commercially less important regions and thereby enhance their growth and global recognition.

The judging panel were highly complimentary in their support for Amanda’s application.  She presented a very convincing, structured and well thought out application which was well referenced.  This is a very ambitious project and the Vintners’ Company wish her every success.
